What Performance Marketing Reporting Should Show a Service Business

Aug 23, 2026 · 4 min readView as .md

Comparable proposals use the same account window, qualification rule, economics, and access assumptions. Otherwise a forecast may look stronger simply because it counts spam, duplicate, job seeker, vendor, or low-fit enquiry as useful demand.

We sell account teardowns and paid media management, so our preference is disclosed. The client should be able to audit the work without relying on our interpretation and keep the record after the engagement ends.

Write the data contract before choosing a connector

Specify the source identifier, event name, timestamp, lead status, value, currency, consent basis, deduplication key, retry behaviour, and owner before selecting an integration method. Google Analytics recommended events documentation documents the relevant platform mechanism.

A test plan should cover one valid lead, one duplicate, one rejected lead, one changed status, and one failed upload. Compare the source system with the destination after the processing delay, then retain an error log that a future operator can read.

Do not send sensitive service details merely because a connector exposes a field. The implementation needs a privacy and platform-policy review, data minimization, access control, and a deletion process.

Qualification needs an owner

The commercial record begins with call or form enquiry and ends with closed service engagement, with need, location or company fit, and contact details verified and sales-accepted appointment or opportunity between them. the sales team should own the classification, while marketing keeps the source and timing attached.

Google Analytics names separate events for generated, qualified, disqualified, working, and closed leads. See the Google Analytics recommended events documentation. The documented control explains what the platform can do. It does not define commercial success for this business.

Do not mix spam, duplicate, job seeker, vendor, or low-fit enquiry with a qualified opportunity lost during the sale. One points back to acquisition or routing; the other calls for a review of offer, timing, or sales execution.

A useful scope leaves an audit trail

Require an event map, persistent identifiers, consent rules, validation tests, CRM status definitions, revenue fields, deduplication, and failure records. Together they preserve the route from the original interaction to closed service engagement.

Google defines the search terms report as the record of searches that triggered ad impressions and clicks. See the Google Ads search terms report documentation. The written scope should connect that control to an account location, a review owner, and a downstream decision. It should also cover conversion testing, duplicate and spam handling, reconciliation with accepted leads, and a dated change record.

This level of detail makes a handover possible and gives the buyer something firmer than a monthly slide deck. It also prevents a forecast from hiding differences in service area, offer strength, capacity, and qualification policy. Those conditions determine the spending ceiling for a service business.

State the assumptions behind the spending limit

A spending limit can be tested with four declared assumptions. For illustration, use $25,700 in collected first-year revenue per closed service engagement, 65% gross margin, 15% conversion from need, location or company fit, and contact details verified, and a 60% acquisition allowance against expected gross profit.

The result is $1,503 per qualified lead: $25,700 × 65% × 15% × 60%. It is a planning example, not a market benchmark. Actual finance and CRM data should replace all four inputs, with a further allowance for overhead, slow collection, refunds, bad debt, and capacity. Update the limit as those inputs change.

Preserve the records behind each result

A defensible report keeps the platform event beside the source record and the later sales status. That makes it possible to trace call or form enquiry to need, location or company fit, and contact details verified and explain why spam, duplicate, job seeker, vendor, or low-fit enquiry was rejected.

LinkedIn reporting includes campaign metrics, conversion reporting, and professional demographics such as job title, company, and industry. See the LinkedIn Ads reporting documentation.

Microsoft documents Universal Event Tracking, conversion goals, remarketing audiences, automated bidding, and target CPA. See the Microsoft Advertising conversion tracking documentation.

These documents explain the available controls. They do not establish demand, cost, eligibility, or likely results for this business. Check the current interface before changing settings, especially when a source covers an older announcement or dated migration.

Turn the account history into a first move

Request a reporting teardown. The teardown follows current account evidence from call or form enquiry to closed service engagement and ranks the first changes. The document is yours even if the engagement stops there.
